Cougar decoy yes or no?
« on: August 26, 2025, 01:26:17 PM »
I see a lot of different thoughts on this. Do you I run the decoy with my calls?  I see where the advantage would be to give the cat something to look at versus it seeing you. I have watched several videos where the cat tried to grab the decoy. The other argument is the cat will stop coming if it sees the decoy. What do you all think and why?

I was thinking this tread was about using a fake full grown cougar as a decoy. Why not? I assume cougars are always watching me, why not give them something else to look at. As long as the decoy is super light weight and I don't have to pack it. Like elk decoys, just don't be too close to it in case some one else is out hunting.

Thick cover, no. Open country, yes. But get it away from you. They'll use cover to approach, often choosing cover that will block your view AND the decoy's view! Approach/set-up is everything!

I was having a hard time wording the title. It did make me think about using a cougar decoy. It might work.

I was thinking along those lines. It’s pretty open in a lot of places. I was thinking about putting it in the bottom of a draw and sitting on one ridge viewing the other. There are places I can back up and hide along a rock ledge.

For some reason the quote function won’t work. I have to cut and paste.
