Cougar license question
« on: November 23, 2025, 08:55:19 PM »
Me and my boy were thinking about doing some cougar hunting and I was a bit confused on the new license rules. It says that you must buy a Big game license that includes cougar so my question is does that mean you can no longer buy just a cougar license or tag? I haven't hunted them for a very long time so I don't understand the new requirement.

Buy a hunting license and buy a cougar tag. Check for quota limitIs and go hunting.   https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/big-game/cougar
Take one new person out hunting every year.

You do need to check daily to make sure the quota in your GMU has not been reached.  This is all season long, not just after January.  Now all cougar kills count against the hunting quota such as vehicle kills, nuances cats, human/cat interactions all count against us.  Good Luck

Buying a cougar license/tag = buying a big game license that includes cougar.  Different words to describe the same thing.

Do you already have hunting licenses?

If so, you just need to buy the cougar tag.

If not, as has been said, get a license with the cougar option and get after them!!

Good luck!!
