No deer left in the panhandle, don’t apply 😂

There will be about 75-100,000 people putting in if it's anything like the last decade of interest. The key to drawing is gonna be who knows what lesser known units to hunt

One good thing about this new system is, the guy who got in the front of the line and bought licenses and tags for 10 different friends and family members will not have an advantage now. In fact the more friends and family who apply, will lower the chances of that guy will draw. Poetic justice.  The odds of drawing a tag will be way better for those who have been stuck at the back of a 60,000 person line while a few tag hogs scoop everything up. No more getting in the front of the line and getting the tags you want. Now you may not even get a tag let alone the primo tags. And a lot certainly won't get drawn for both deer and elk.

I was in the queue at 38,000 in 2023. Had a spreadsheet and tracked what sold out in what order. There were deer some units available I’d be happy to hunt. Better than wasting PTO in WA  :chuckle:

Shhh don't give anyone a reason to be hopeful. It's horrible and a waste of money. $185? Noone should pay that.🫣🤫

The ONLY way your odds will get better will be if it's not a highly desired unit. Those boys grabbing the panhandle tags for decades aren't gonna put in for anything else IMO. I know the ones here aren't

I've always noted the first tags to sell out as well. The Elk tags to go for are the Lo-los if ya want a good chance, they always had leftovers. I won't tell the deer unit :).
I wish Idaho would make the tags weapon specific. More chances at drawing and less hunters during a given season

but you still can get in line after the draws in the return sales. How I have gotten quite a few tags

I predict the demand for tags will increase. There are a bajillion new tag services advertising all over the place to apply for Idaho. With 5 choices I will be surprised if there are very many tags available after the first draw.

I am really curious to how this all plays out in 5-10 years. I have a hard time believing this is of any long term benefit to non-residents.

Since the tags won’t increase by any measurable amount I expect even more demand for tags since there’s not any headache to deal with the previous system. I think most out of state hunters that are looking to branch out west saw the previous system and decided not to even play. Now they just log on, pick a few units and wait. Yea buying the license with no refund if not drawn isn’t ideal but I don’t expect that to make a difference in people wanting to experience Idaho. I have a sinking feeling that I won’t even get a tag this year for a low tier unit 1st choice.

I think these are the exact reactions Idaho wants.
Reduce the pool some.... And they'll still sell all the tags...
The mass influx of people wanting to hunt Idaho got a little absurd the last few years... :twocents:

The amount of Non-Residents hunting will be the same.  All the tags will sell
