I've used cable and chain, even snowmobile belts. Just depends if I'm hanging off a rock cliff , tree, or a pipe A frame.

Sounds like fun

Decommissioned fire supply hose cut into strips.  Holds up very well and will take a lot of rounds before it give up the ghost.  I use case hardened bolts with large washers and a spacer (extra nuts) behind the target and before the hose / strap to allow the target to hang at an angle.  Helps deflect all bullets straight down.  I dig a pit under the target to bare dirt to cut down on risk of fire.

That's kind of hard on the trees.

Marysville Rifle's setup for what it's worth.  They take quite a beating.

I noticed that many are setting up their support posts to be behind the gong. I have also seen this at multiple range  :dunno:
It seemed to me this is asking for a short life for the posts. If the gong is just rotated 90 degrees from the post, and the post set to the side, the post would not be inline with the gong. There would be almost zero chance of hitting the post.
