Unable to get kids' hunter-ed certificates into WDFW system
« on: March 27, 2026, 12:44:55 PM »
Hi all,

Our family is new to hunting, I'm working to take my two boys on a youth turkey hunt next week. They've completed hunter-ed including the in-person portion, we received their certificates via email, and have forwarded them to huntered@dfw.wa.gov, but have heard nothing back. I sent them 3 days ago. Am I doing something wrong here?

About a week earlier I sent that same address my hunter ed cert from California, and they were able to enter it in and replied to me about an hour later.

Just getting worried that it's not going to be done in time to get their hunting licenses before the hunt. Any tips?

You need to take the certificates to a license dealer. They will enter the hunter education info. Once they do you can buy licenses.

 :yeah:
I would print them and take them to a dealer.

This weekend is the hunter education instructor conference in Wenatchee so I think it has been all hands on deck the last couple days and probably week getting ready for this.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

If all else fails call your regional office, soon as possible.

So... before I could get over to the license dealer or call anyone, I got a reply from both the email I sent to huntered@ and the email I sent to licensing@.

The reply from huntered said I need to take the certificates to an in-person license dealer.

The reply from licensing said "no problem, I've added both certificates for you and you can now buy licenses on the site"!

And the weird thing is they both came in right around the same time.

Now I just need to figure out why my kids don't have the "Get Outdoors package with CRSSE" option available to buy, like I do. hmmm

The package is probably not available for youth because youth do not have to buy a fishing license or the crsse. All the kids need is a salmon and steelhead catch record card which is free for them.
