New Wetside Hunter
« on: April 12, 2026, 09:36:37 PM »
Greetings,

First time elk hunter. My next child is due in the fall so my hunting days are numbered, however I still want to put some meat in the freezer. I got a tip from an old timer and would like to bounce that off of a seasoned roosie hunter. I'm not going to spot burn, but if anyone is familiar with 607, please send me a message. Located in Seabeck if someone wants to split some Rainer's over it.

Try to find an area where you can access it to hunt the border of the park...  :twocents:  I have limited knowledge of anything up there but some Rayonier lands... One that bordered the park... Huge bulls come out of the park looking for cows during muzzy elk... I lost the biggest rosie I'd ever seen up there in reprod... Seen two others that were huge 6x6 in there as well...
I love you... I really do...

@Kingofthemountain83 The old timers hunt muzzy there as well. I'm a bow hunter. What's so special about the muzzy season over the others? is it worth picking one up?

There is less muzzy hunters... Most your competition is older and not going as far in and not out hunting in nasty weather long... The elk are still rutting and responding to calls and doing stupid things in daylight hours... If you can figure an area out the hunting can be better than archery season... May not have to pass up a lot of shots through the timber and brush you just can't take with a bow... There's a ton a advantages imo... You could get a 150 yard shot at a bull... Be a new experience to try out and see if you like it or not... Could always go back to archery if you don't...
I love you... I really do...

Muzzy hunting pops are increasing every year in WA for some odd reason. Regardless, both muzzy and archery elk seasons in Washington are brief and not in the heart of the elk rut by design of WDFW. You’re better off looking OOS to put elk meat in the freezer IMHO if you want to hunt stick and string or even smokepole. Lastly, avoid at all costs.. no birthdays or anniversary’s from say early SEP through the end of OCT… it’s tough but will stand with you in battle to fill freezers  8). Just teasing you brother. Give me a call if you want another area to hunt this fall beyond 607. RJ/WapitiTalk @ 360-402-3744

Thank you for the input, I really appreciate it and be careful what you ask for @WapitiTalk1 because I just might take you up on it.

LOL my youngest son was born on October 24th, but somehow I've managed!

Car, RJ is a great resource, I've spent hours on the phone with him discussing elk. If he extends the offer, take him up on it.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.
