Elk Area Suggestion
« on: May 01, 2026, 10:45:05 AM »
Hi first post here. I’m new here to elk hunting and I have a few questions. Are you able to apply for special hunts in eastern Washington and hunt western when you don’t get drawn. Would it be better to hunt spikes in eastern Washington or hunt the western half in gmus like 513 and 516 with a 3 pt min. I’m mainly looking for experience, I’m still in high school in Ellensburg so the closer to Ellensburg the easier it would be to hunt. If you have any suggestions for areas and vague plans that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Only if you draw a multi-season tag, which has already taken place this year. Once you apply for special permits you are locked in to your east/west and weapon type selection, if you do not apply for special permits you can change your selection up until the season opener.

The regs and requirements are about as clear as mud, good luck  :chuckle:

Thanks I applied for bull hunts in eastern Washington with modern firearm obviously I’m not going to get drawn at least this year so I’m stuck with eastern Washington modern firearm right?

Correct. Can't remember off the top of my head if you still have the option to modify your special hunt selections or not

henry... Please apply for for youth tags while you can... And quality tags... And bull tags... And antlerless tags... And all the same for deer as well if possible in the areas you have... Don't forget about moose and bighorn... Goat... I don't even put in for any more in this state... I don't know what your $$$ allowance is on hunting but do what it takes... I'm pretty familiar with the Yakima area if you need some advice... Taken a couple cows outta Ellensburg... Couple bulls outta the Clok...
I love you... I really do...

I don't know if the Kittitas County Field and Stream club is still active, but if it is, that would be a great organization to join and get some mentoring.  They were a great organization in the past.
