Blue Creek Archery Bull Tag
« on: July 04, 2009, 11:32:56 PM »
New guy here, I just stumbled on to this sight and it looks like a great bunch of guys!

I drew the Bull Archery tag for unit 154 in the Blue Creek unit, just curious what kind of info you guys might have about it. I have access to some private land already and have started scouting. hope to have some trail cam pics soon. Thanks in advance for any info and help.

You'll find that this is a tough group to crack info out of until you become known well enough.  Head to the introductions thread and give a bit of info about yourself.  Most all of us started out as "first post askers" instead of givers, so don't feel too bad.  Take a few months to let everyone get used to who you are and where you stand on different things through your posts.  Keep coming on here and sharing and, come mid-August, you may just find the answers that you seek coming in a PM.  And, no, I don't know that area to help.

This was a generous offer for the sep rifle permit holder, he might be able to point you in the right direction. You might want to introduce yourself and share some stories and pictures first.

Thanks for the tips guys I just thought this seemed like a good place to maybe find a lil extra info. I keep on scouting and post some cam pics as soon as I can. Not trying to be a freeloader here just thought I would ask.

How about some info about yourself?  Where do you live, how long have you bow hunted, what kind of bull you are looking for, have you ever hunted the unit.  Being someone who has hunted the unit for the last 10 years I tend to be a little tight lipped about my spots.  Regardless of what info you may or may not get from this site you will have a great hunt and see plenty of bulls.

I live in Walla Walla and I have bow hunted for the last 12 years. In 2007 I had a Walla Walla Oregon Bull Archery Tag and I harvested a 335" bull. I am looking for something a little bigger but I would be happy with a bull of that caliber also. I have also hunted the unit the last 10-12 years but mainly on our own property. I would like to explore the unit a little more but I realize alot of it is private with very little public ground. I will be starting to knock on doors to see if I can gain access to other private lands as well beginning next week when I return home from a business trip.

When out last night and did a little scouting, seen a group of 7 bulls. The biggest looked to my estimation to be around 340"-350". He had nice width and main beam length, and decent point length. I hope to get a better look at him to size him up better. It was pretty close to dark when I found them.

And he still has 6 weeks to grow :)

With that tagyou should realy be looking at the mid 350's as a starting point or "mendoza" line bull. anything below there and most of us "locals" consider it a sub bull. I've hunted in there for bear and other predators for several years now, with a little work and effort, you'll kill a great bull.
