Nice bull elk and still growing
« on: July 06, 2009, 04:08:32 PM »
Set 5 cams in the high country when the weather was good, pulled them today after one week because of the rain coming in ruins the Mountain photos.

Did get some nice bulls and would have been better if a cow elk hadn't tilted the camera.  Nice for a toutle tag.....

You can tell anyone you want, I don't hunt elk that far from my house.  I live on the Tower road in Castle Rock and we have plenty of elk and easier pack for me at 65.  Not that I'm not in top condition for climbing and packing after setting the cameras around the Mountain for years and working in the woods logging till retirement.

The elk goes back and forth from the loowit to the toutle area on the end of the 3000 line, I parked on the start of the trail to castle lake and will go both ways over the hill depending on which side I want photos.

I did hike down to the ponds below the turnout on the loowit side to check out how the cutthroats were doing, seems to be a quite a few still in the creek ponds, I don't fish but like to see them surviving to re-stock the toutle.  Not sure how far I hiked but it is very steep took several hours to get to the bottom and a couple to climb back out.  I'm sure i could have walked all the way to and back from Castle lake a lot faster.

Nice picture.

Thats a good look at your typical Toutle raghorn right there. Buddy has the mudflow muzzy tag this year. Hope he can find a good one.

I certainly wouldn't pass on this "Toutle raghorn"  another month to finish off the top three forks for the crown and looks like a keeper to me.  Very even set, might set up a few cameras closer to season for some hard horn pics.

Hopefully you can get pics of that Raghorn once his is all polished up. Be cool to see how much growing he will do in a month or so.
