Traditions In-Line .50 Cal
« on: June 26, 2009, 09:16:33 PM »
I just wanted to see if anyone shoots a Traditiona In-Line .50.  I wanted to see if anyone has a load combo that has proved to be very accurate down range.  I am shooting the Powerbelt Premium Hollow Point Bullets.  All lead with the green skirt along with the Hodgdon Pyrodex 50/50 pellet.  I notice that the pellet will not slip down into the breach plug, so it can leave the bottom 1/4" in the cup empty.  The loose grain fills it so my mark on my ram rod drops in deeper.  Don't know if anyone has a better combination to offer.  Some good advice would be appreciated.  I used to always use my Lyman Great Plains rifle in .54 cal with black powder.  I like the lighter weight of my new in-line, so I have crossed over from true traditional.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I don’t shoot a Traditions, but my advice is to switch to loose powder and switch to a sabot/bullet combination.

Randy Wakeman has some good tips:

Good read.

I shoot a traditions tracker 209 using a #11 breech.  I've had good shot groups with 120-150Gr 777 pellets and Hornady Great Plains 385gr lubed sabots. (true 50 cal 45 w/ plastic sleeve)

I found improvement when I replaced the stock sights with aftermarket sights.  The fiber optics seemed a little large and I got smaller fiber optic sight line ups with the aftermarkets which allowed better grouping... course I shoot crosseyed anyways...
