Hey all, just getting back to muzzle stuffers. I just picked up a used T.C. Hawken, 50cal. Ive always used musket caps, so I buy some musket cap nipples and change it out, but the musket caps dont fit, you have to give them a pinch or they fall off. I tried several nipples and all the same, what the hell, did something change? Its been a few years since I shot smokepoles but I dont remember this happening before. Any ideas? thanks in advance. OH T.C. musket nipples, CCI musket caps.

Check dixiegun.com, they may have an after market that will fit your TC. I don't know offhand what thread TC uses. Good luck. If ya can't find a suitable replacement just go for #11 CCI magnums. I get good results with those.

Guess I didnt explain that very well, the caps fall off the nipples, the nipples fit the gun just fine.

, I should have added, that different manufacturers have different specs and a different nipple may have a larger outside diameter. I knew what you meant. I should have included the extra info with my first response. I apologize for not doing so. Regards.

I shoot the regular no 11 caps threw my T/C Greyhawk. Never messed with musket caps till I hunted with an inline. I figure you should not shoot more than 100 grains of powder threw a side lock and a regular cap should be plenty to ignite that amount of powder.

I use the musket caps that are made in germany (I think). They come in a red container and they fit my TC Black Diamond nipple great. I will look up the name and post shortly.

Dyanamite Nobel musket caps. I buy mine at Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee. You can order them online as well.

Jreb really. I use the ones from Germany as well but they still slide off my T/C Blackdiamond. I just give them a slight pinch as well so it's not a big deal. I wonder if our T/C's are made in different years and they changed their nipple diameters

dead dog. Just continue to pinch that's what I do. They will work fine and will never slide off. I've never had a problem with them. Good luck.

Just seems damn strange that the caps dont fit tight on the nipples, but thanks for all the ideas. I realy do like the musket caps over the # 11, so I guess Ill be a pincher.

Hey Rasbo. I used to use the mag #11, but I hate the size of the little bastids, seems like i cant find a capper that is worth a *censored*e and end up try to place on the nipple with my fingers, fumble f%($ around, drop 4 or 5 and then shoot. Plus I was screwing around, just experimenting, mind you. I loaded 2, 50gr pellets, 777, in a side hammer just to see how well each primer type would do. The #11 mags had failure to ignite on the pellets about 25% of the time, the musket caps ignited the pellets 100 % of the time. I know its not recommended to shoot pellets out of a side hammer, I just wanted to see how much flame I could get out of a musket cap compared to a #11 mag. Seems like the musket caps come out on top and the size makes it easy to finger the damn thing on the cap.

yes my buddy has problems with pellets..I use loose..I do put mine on with finger.I used to have a round soft plastic cap holder that worked really good ,but cant find it.I think the dog ate it,when she slides her ass on the grass,it ignites

Just out of curiosity does your musket caps disintegrate when you fire them, If I snap a cap unloaded it stays intact but I load up 80gr FFFG 777 and a 320gr Maxi-Ball then fire the only thing left of the musket cap is the small circle that is smashed between the hammer and nipple, everything else is completely gone. I started wearing safety glasses because of all the scrapnel flying around !! It's a T/C BD also ??

I shoot 95gr. of T7 fffg, 250gr. Barnes sabots and CCI musket caps out of my Bighorn and the caps come out pretty mangled up but complete. I wonder if they have something to do with your Maxi-Ball??
My friend shoots a T/C BD, 100gr. of T7 ffg, 250gr Hornady sabots and CCI musket cap with almost same results, mangled but whole.

What brand of musket cap are you shooting?

I use the Nobel musket cap and have never had that problem with my TC Black Diamond XR.

Been using cci musket caps and T.C. musket nipples. Those are the ones that fall off without a pinch. Hey robodad, seems like back pressure thru the nipple maybe. does it do the same no matter what you load, smaller charge or looser fitting bullet?

The nipple I use came with the ML so I don't know which brand it is but the caps are CCI and Yeah deaddog, I think it is too much back pressure, I wonder if it is because of the smaller granulation of the FFFg 777 ?? I have tried the pyrodex in FFg and don't remember having this issue, I wonder if T7's FFg would do the same thing.

Does it really make that big of a difference in a rifle vs pistol using the FFFg instead of FFg, my shoulder says hell yeah that T7 has a real crack to it vs the pyrodex from what I have noticed but what about the granulation size ??

I think I remember something about t7 being 10% stronger and I would think droping to ffg might make a differance.

It's 15%. So an 85 grain charge of Triple Seven would be equivalent to a 100 grain charge of black powder.

and 100 grains of T7 = 117.6 grains of black powder. When you think about the charge differance. its huge. Shooting 150 grains of T7 is like 176.5 grains black powder.
