have you pulled your baits?
« on: July 24, 2009, 11:47:27 AM »
just curious to know if the baited camera guys have pulled their baits with bear season coming. i'm not sure of what the right thing to do here is but it seems the animals would get conditioned to coming in to a bait/camera site. so when do you pull them? or do you not hunt your baited camera sites??

I pulled mine about 2 weeks ago and will not hunt the exact spot the camera was, maybe the area, but not the cam site.

It's too high up anyway.

I should be very clear....

the few apples I did lay out were to see what deer were in the area, as I do not have any problem finding bears. God baits the bears for me using black berries and I call them to come and eat me anyway.

That being said, that is why I pulled the cam and quit placing apples...I didnt get any shots of deer, only the one bearski. In addition, I did not want to have any confusion on anybodies part as to my ethics of hunting.

Remember that 655 states:

d) As used in this subsection, "bait" means a substance placed,
3 exposed, deposited, distributed, scattered, or otherwise used for the
4 purpose of attracting black bears to an area where one or more persons
5 hunt or intend to hunt them.

"Or intend" can be broad in meaning.

I usually pull my cameras before September 1st. Then I set them up on private property. I haven't had one jacked in 6 years!!!  :)
