To be honest, the first pic isn't good enough to make that shadow into any sort of animal. I'm sure that with your binoculars or even naked eye with natural light that he was visible, -as you certainly sighted him. The 'Closer' pic you supplied does clearly indicate the deer. Even without the edit/outline. A good buck that doesn't want to be seen, won't be. And, if you don't get too close, he'll let you walk right on by without him making a move to vacate.

Did that with a Whitetail two years ago. Son and I walked within 50' of a bedded 3pt. (he was quite conceled)  He didn't bolt until we were some 60yds away and had stopped to glass the route to our next destination.
