Sekiu kings... or not

Just got back from a week in sekiu and had an awesome time with pictures coming soon except for one thing... all the idiots that thought it was fine to drag feeder black mouth in by the dozen thinking they were pinks and also blatently keeping wild kings like it was nothing  According to the f&w guys i talked to up there that is the reason that kings were closed all but one day i was up there when it shouldve been the whole time...  those 5 clipped kings wouldve looked good in my freezer had it not been for people who think that they are above the rules and or too lazy to learn to tell the difference

yep my buddy just got back from there, he was one of the guys checking fish at the docks, he said for every 15 fish they checked 9 would be kings undersized or not fin clipped, bunch or idiots out there, gameys were having a good day writing tickets

sounds like a test is in order for open water salmon fishing to keep the idiots from claiming ignorance.  Just do it like the goose identification deal...

Unbelievable that so many people can't ID a king from a coho or pink.   Sounds like something you'd find at a suburban river, not clear out at Sekiu.  Glad to hear the gamies were there.

I heard about that. Friggin morons. Too many idiots think they can go out and fill their freezers with whatever is on the end of their line. I was up in Winthrop last weekend in the sporting goods shop. Some idiot was asking the guy what flies to buy so he could go catch some steely's in the Methow I wanted to slap him in the face with a reg book. It is insane how many people that can't identify a wild fish from a hatchery, a chinook from a silver, etc. They really have no business even fishing for salmon.

Unclipped Chinook are considered to be endangered and the penalties for retaining them are stiff; suspension of fishing privileges for up to 5 years, property (boat, gear, trailer, tow vehicle) seized and forfeited.  It’s not like your run of the mill citation.

I was out there about a month ago, hooked and released several 30+ lbs unclipped kings.  Heard you could keep one only if it had been caught in open water, possible some of the fish you saw at the docks was caught out in open water?

 I haven't seen a ticket for that yet either. I was at the Everett coho derby last year and not one but two consecutive boats came in with blackmouth, when it was closed. I was curious to see what the checker would say, she just tried to educate these grizzled half drunk slobs who did a fairly good job of acting surprised. I could tell from 20 yards away it was a king, truly *censored*es. I truly believe a lot of the fishermen at Sekiu intentionally keep salmon out of season because of the resource rape the Makahs undertake up there each winter, catching 25k blackmouth, to the sporty's 4-5k king catch, not exactly 50% of the resource is it.
