Chelan Bighorns (Plus some other pics)
« on: August 15, 2009, 08:27:25 AM »
Nothing too special, but I thought I would share some of the pictures from my families Chelan trip this past week.

Spotted a herd of sheep right off the lake, all yews except for this small ram.

Only saw one deer the whole trip (in Chelan).

I've attached a few more pictures from the trip.  We had a lot of fun overall.

Kind of sad there was only one deer.  I rarely see that many either...

Hi, Shane!

Good to see you were able to spot the Chelan Bighorns.  Oddly enough, this is a herd I've never seen.  I've passed thru the Chelan area many times on my way to Entiat to "shoot" the sheep there.  I always took a few minutes to glass the slopes around Chelan to try to get a glimpse of the sheep, but never found them.  Always had luck with those Entiat sheep, though.

Friends often tell me that they've see the Chelan sheep right along US 97, just north of the Beebee Bridge.  I always look when passing thru there (which I do about once a week) but still haven't seen them.  I hope to find this bunch by October so I can see them in the  rut.  It'd be more convenient than Entiat, which is about 45 minutes further.

That's a different herd Tom.  You are thinking of the Chelan Butte herd.  The ones on the north side of the lake is the Manson herd.  If you want to see them bring a spotting scope and go up by 25 mile creek.  Glass across the lake and you'll see them.  They are known for big bases there and not a lot of curl so they can look deceivingly big...
