Where to hunt in November, advice please
« on: August 21, 2009, 09:45:13 PM »
I am currently looking to go on my first elk hunt.  Unfortunately with work and some other travel, I am blocked out until November (with the around the 7th being the first date could be going).  There seems to be some options with a late season hunt.  Idaho has a lot of tags left, but there are rumors of wolves and bad hunts.  Also looking at Washington and Oregon.

I would love to join a group already going or maybe semi guided.  I don't have in my hunting budget for a $5k guide plus tags.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mike

there are still a lot of elk in idaho dont worry about the wolves, oregon has tags available until the first day of season but youll be hunting spike only on the eastside since im assuming you are doing rifle same with washington spike only on the eastside, that said i think you could buy an otc tag for branch bulls in either state to hunt the thick nasty wet sidesin many units, I sent ya a pm

Hunt Idaho every year for elk, the last 4 anyway, and haven't seen a wolf yet.  I hear they are there, just haven't seen one myself.

Shirtguy77 - where in Idaho do you hunt.  I am looking at the Middle fork B tag as it has a late hunt.  Any info would be appreciated.

if i were you id stay away from the north portion of the state the last two years seems like every place i got i run into wolves the first year me and bigbullballs hunted it we had three cross the logging road 80 yards in front of us needles to say we never saw another elk in that drainage. Also had them sound off every night above our camp. makes hunting tough.
Its all about the bone baby!

Everybody likes Mike!!!

Any other area suggestions or advice on Middle Fork in November?  Sounds like the wolves are scarying some hunters away.  Does that mean better chance with the elk that are left :)
