They are starting to bugle on the eastside....
« on: August 24, 2009, 03:15:33 PM »
My brother and i left Friday night and went to meet an old friend down by cowichie unit.
rolled in about 11pm to his place then we were to bed and up at 430 to hit the hills and search for critters.
it was 37 degrees and crisp.
got up to about 70 by 3pm.

we brought our rifles for possibly a bear but never did get on one.
ran into a bunch of elk from about 530 am till about 11 am.  Saw a bunch of deer too but no big guys. mostly spikes and does.

The second big group we came up upon was when we were regrouping on a logging road and in the silence we heard the chuckle and whistle of a monster bull just down the hill from us.  then the cow calls started....

just about that time we looked around us and were surrounded by cows and bulls.  Didn't get a great look at the bulls but by the bugles they were not small  .

they talked and chirped and chatted for about 5-10 min and we just listened with grins.

then we chased them down the hill and went on our way.

my bro and i had some pretty cool moments this weekend and i cant wait till we are back in the woods again.

Get in the woods guys cool things are happening....

Right on I love going out listening and bugling back at them.  In all my experience do not judge an elk by his bugle!

Saturday morning was a chilly one in yakima. Would have been a great day up in the mountains I'm sure. Too bad I was picking apples :bash: :bash: :bash:

Nope just an opportunist taking advantage of the moment.

Now there is a quotable quote if I have ever seen one.

Great to hear they are bugling.  Gonna be up high on the Wetside this weekend, hopefully will get to hear a few.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

They were talking in my unit on the west side yesterday. Cool to see them getting tuned up for the big dance.

Got back from the Blue Mts. last night, scouting for my brother's West Wenaha rifle tag.  Bulls were screaming and fired up.  Saw some real bruisers!
