Backing for deer hide?
« on: December 12, 2007, 09:21:56 PM »
What kind of backing would you use for a deer hide? Felt?
How much...how many yards?
How would you do it?
And finally how many millions would it be to have it done?

What do you mean what kinda backing?  On tanned deer hides they normally don't come with a backing at all.

Are you talking just a soft tanned deer hide? or one mounted like a bear rug with the head and all?

Yards depends on the size of the hide and the deer.

They have the hair on still, but when they are hanging on the wall the wall turns yellow. Is there a way to treat the hide to prevent the staining he walls or do something to the walls where the hides will be hanging?

I was thinking of like the backing on a typical bear rug.

One of the deer weight about 130 lbs field dressed.
The second one was about 145 lbs or so field dressed.

Is there anything here that helps or am I completly crazy????

What is staining the walls is the tanning oil applied the the skin.

I don't see why you couldn't put some felt on the back of them.  That should prevent them from staining the walls.
