Holy Crap! Montana Tags!!! (help needed)
« on: September 08, 2009, 09:42:15 PM »
My buddy and I just got our MT combo tags off the Alt list.  Since we were 738 on the alt list, we didn't plan on going AT ALL.  Have not hunted MT before, so now we are rushing to put together our trip and we need some pointers....

We were debating between unit 704, and the east Chinook area (unit 600), 2nd or 3rd week in Nov.  We settled on the latter since its a little closer and we've done more homework on that area... hunting for mulies, pulling a trailer.  Going to call the Biologist this week and Block Mgmt packet is on it's way, etc. etc.

Was hoping for your GPS honey hole coordinates, or access to a private ranch.  No?

Well, ok, fine... Any recommendations on hunter friendly RV sites, meat locker/cold storage, or restaurants, sporting good stores, etc. around Chinook?  Havre?  Plenty of info on 704/SE and Fort Peck when I searched the forum, but not much for 600.

Also, I've never hunted that far out of state- how do you transport your game back to WA?  12hr ride under a truck canopy in game bags ok?  Seems like it would be ok in November but wanted your  :twocents:

Any other members in the area at that time- PM me... maybe we can connect.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

M-Ray and I are heading out the 19th, can't wait. Montana updated the alt list situation Sept. 1st, according to a freind over there they are issuing tags to everyone on the list regardless of where you stood in line.

UPDATE: September 1, 2009
Additional combo licenses have become available to those hunters who added their names to the alternate list before May 10, 2009. There are Big Game combo and Elk combo licenses; NO Deer or Landowner Sponsor. These are for general season areas only, you will not be able to hunt the special permit areas.

If you are on the alternate list and are interested in purchasing one of the combination licenses, please print the application below and return to the address on the application with the appropriate fee. You will be eligible for the license if you are on the alternate list regardless of your position.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Do they just have a butt load of tags turned in or are they giving out extra tags?
