A few little Pink Salmon
« on: September 02, 2009, 08:05:16 AM »
Last week I took a young man and his son out in my boat on the Skagit river to fish for Pink Salmon.
Neither one of them had ever caught a salmon before, so I had a ball teaching them.
I rigged their rods up with gear exactly like mine, but my rod was the hot one in the boat. I caught 3 Chinook salmon a 6 pound Jack, a 17 1/2 pound and a 27 pound king. Those three had to be released immediately because the Chinook season has already closed on the Skagit. :( Then my rod hooked 11 Pink salmon, one after another. I would drop it back behind the boat, get a strike, set the hooks and then hand it off to either the boy or his Dad.
Finally, the Dad hooked a nice chrome bright Pink and got it back into the net and our Legal limit of 4 fish per angler was met.

Here are some photos of us and one stringer of fish that we caught:

When I got home I took a photo of my stringer hanging from the side of my boat:

All in all it was a pretty nice day on the river and it was fun teaching two new fishermen how to catch fish! :)

Good looking fish!
Awesome job keeping the tradition going GP.

Way to go, always nice when you can take a kid out and get them on the fish....

GOOD FOR YOU!!!

I like to see people take time out to teach somebody new. I hope I can do more of the same in the future when I get my boat back.

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?
