Our Buddy
« on: September 06, 2009, 02:54:29 PM »
Picked up a new pup on friday after work. His name is Buddy and he is the brother of our previous chocolate lab, Hemi.

After hemi was hit by a car I contacted the breeder i got him from and asked if they have another litter t let me know, Hemi had such a great personallity and would love to get a pup from another one of ther litter's. Well I got a call from her last sunday and she is unable to keep the pup that they they originally wanted to froom the last litter. She asked me if i was interested in him and she sent me pictures. I discussed it with the family and every one said "Yes".

So here is our new Chocolate Lab "Buddy", he is 6 moths old and is fitting on with everyne nicely, Snickers loves having a play mate and boy do they play a lot.

Now i have the challenge of training two dogs for hunting  :bash:  Let the fun begin...............

Gasman, glad you were able to get another one. Looks like a great pup. He may have a case of the horns for snickers though  :chuckle:. Let me know if you are looking for a few pheasants or quail to get the training started.

I will be in touch after i get back from my elk hunt.

You and Larry are on my list to contact for birds.

We gave him a pigion the other day and did his thing, but i do have t say, snickers showed him a thing or two about what to do with the bird  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Having trained my 2 labs together I would say the #1 thing is to keep them separate before training! If your going out first thing in the morning then separate the night before if going in the afternoon then separate in the morning otherwise they play all during the night or day and when you get to the field there tired from chasing each other and you won't get a productive session from either. Another thing don't let one distract the other because they will be best friends and will like playing with each other the most. Good luck great looking pups by the way.  :twocents:

I have to say that this is so true. Even if they are not able to play together just being together they will not listen. With my pup her brother lives across the yard at my parents house. When they get together they seem to forget anything that they have learned. Even if I grab Sofie and take her away from her brother, she still wants to see what he is doing and will not pay attention to me. Keep them seperated while doing any training. Joan Bailey reccomends this in her book "How to help Gun dogs train themselves"
