Elk rut????
« on: September 12, 2009, 05:32:48 PM »
Just curious what you all have seen in elk behavior lately on the west side? I have seen bachelor herds and have not heard a bugle one.  I did watch a bull with about 8 cows rounding them up.  I also saw another heard with 5 bulls and 15 cows and showing no signs of rut.  Im curious what everyone else has seen.  I know every herd is different but im thinking things should start picking up later this week.

Just got back from 9 days in the Siouxon and saw no rut activity.  Talked to a bunch of hunters while I was up there and no one had heard them talking.

I was was in the St. Helens area.  I called in a bull with his herd, but that was the day before the opening.  That was the only elk that I found would respond to a bugle or cow call.  Not quite time yet where I was hunting.

we had a bull screaming at us on wedsday would of got the bull but got caught by the lead cow. i think we have had bulls bugle at us almost everyday but yesterday and today. just once we get in there area they shut up and don't make another noise and no they weren't other hunters. it is pretty frustrating. now we have just be spot and staking them. i have herd of a couple of bulls being taking around here but not very many. but next week should be good should start talking alot.

I always seen to see a lot of action right after archery season ends and the first week of October.

I drew a Muzzleloader tag a couple years ago and hunted Oct 1-10 the first 5 days of Oct they were going crazy in the mornings.

We came home a day early from the St Helens area. Hot weather, no bugling, and some *censored*s driving a truck around the gate and camping up in the woods screwed us.  :bash:
