Very cool encounter of the Bullwinkle Kind
« on: September 22, 2009, 11:03:09 AM »
Sunday I was camped out on my property in Idaho.  I put a trail cam out the day before and went up to get it.  I took the camera down and started doing a little surveying on where I want to build my cabin.  I hear a big animal walking away and then I hear a bull moose grunting.  I turned my trail camera back on and got behind a big stump and started calling like a lovesick cow.  Here he comes tearing back in.  He came into 40 yards but started circling downwind and busted me.  I could see him really good but the trail camea couldn't pick him up.  I started waving my hand in front of the sensor, but never got the lovesick boy on film.  He probably had 36 inch palms.  Right after that I found my first ever bull moose scrap.  I did get some photos of that with my trail camera that I'll post tonight.  Place stunk to high heaven of moose.  He was flinging dirt all over the place, very cool.

There isn't much cooler than getting a big bull moose fired up...

Not too far from Saint Maries.  I bought 20 acres way up in the hills that borders state land and paper company land.  Lots of gated roads for the mules to ride.  Supposed to be a few elk, lots of moose and whitetails, a few bears, a cat or two and a bunch of turkeys.  Been a wolf sighting but nothing substantial yet.  Nice place, in two days I heard a 4 wheeler off in the distance, once.   :)

Set up the camera here, but nothing came in.   :(

Bull was grunting and moved through just past the tree left of center, but I couldn't get the trail camera to pick him up that far.

Turned around and found my first ever moose scrap.  Really stunk

All these were taken with my homebrew trail camera.   :)
