I hit the rimrock unit for the last 7 days of early archery season. It was a solo hunt this year due to my uncles bailing on me for an Oregon elk hunt. I have never been camping/hunting by myself before, it gets really dark and kinda scary up there when you are alone! I ran into elk most days, had a cow catch me off guard, she stepped out in front of me at about 10 yards, I managed to get to pre-draw status before she cut the distance between us in half then finally noticed me sitting there on a stump suffering from adrenaline overdose. I was joined by my buddy for the last day and a half which was nice. The second to last day I took a moderately nasty spill nothing too serious and no damage to my bow, but hurt like hell. About an hour after the fall I got a 30 yard broadside shot at a cow elk, I managed to spazz out and completely miss, oh well at least it was a clean miss, in fact it was just a damn fine miss! That same day my buddy had just fought his way through a particularly thick patch up onto a little knoll. After he rubber necked at the scenery for about 45 seconds he finally noticed the giant 4 point muley staring at him. Needless to say that buck is still roaming around. Could have been a real trip to remember, but it was still a good trip, it wasn't unbearably hot and I had a fair amount of action. This was my 4th year hunting the rimrock unit and the first year hearing bonafide bugles in that unit. Anyone hunt the rimrock unit do any good?
