Leupold Gold Ring HD Binos
« on: December 23, 2007, 02:29:41 PM »
Anybody have them or use them?  Just curious what they're like relative to the Cabela's Euros or the more pricey Leica's, Swaros, Zeiss, etc.

Well, just pulled the trigger for a little Xmas present to myself.  Cabela's has the 10x42 HD on sale for $800, they're regularly $1400.  Couldn't resist the deal.  It's on backorder, so I've got my fingers crossed that they show up before my mid-January archery coues hunt in AZ.

I did quite a bit of searching various independent reviews of binos, and most said the glass is as good as any, including Swaro EL and Zeiss Victory.  The one noted drawback is the weight.  At 34 oz, they're 7 oz. heavier than the Zeiss and Swaro.  But to save $1000, I'll carry a few extra ounces.

Interestingly, I didn't get charged sales tax.  Now that Cabela's has a retail store in WA, they'll need to start charging sales tax on Internet orders.  But maybe that doesn't start til their next tax year...?   :dunno:

I don't know what is up with Leupold.  Just got a dealer catalog today.  They are selling HD 10x42's for $663.00 (Dealer cost).  I just bought a pair for 1k (Dealer cost) for my mom three months ago, now Cabelas is selling them for 800.00.  I'm calling Leupold tomorrow to find out what is up.

Did you ever get a hold of Leupold and see what was going with the pricing of these?
