Rifle Rut Hunt Reports?????
« on: September 28, 2009, 10:07:42 PM »
Heard today that at least one in our area went home with his tag.  Really surprised to hear that, seems archery hunters were in the bulls regularly this season.

There is a guy on here that had the Teanaway sept. rifle tag and killed like a 322 or something. I think the story and pics are 3 or 4 pages back.

I personally saw one of the wenaha (sp) bulls. Seen it get rough scored at a little over 350.
While dropping my buck off at the butcher, met a guy with a tucannon ( sp) tag, I BELIEVE, to be rifle. He said his bull roughed at 396.  I saw the picks.  It is by far the biggest bull I've ever seen. We will likely never see the picks as he is a old school hunter. He said he saw a nice bull shot it, and one of his sons pursisted on a score. So they roughed it. The G4s go 24.25 from what he said.
That's what I've personaly seen. Keep on mind I know Jack all about score as it's irrelevant to me, so I could not say if it's bs or not, but judging by the pics... I'd believe  it.
Ps on I phone, so sorry for crumby write up.

I ran into the guy while he was scouting, Talked with him after season and he said he got one. He is gonna put pictures on here  Soon I hope. He did say that he saw a monster 7x7 That was close to a 400 bull  After he shot his In a area I told him to go, But he decided not to go there.. Oh well

I would like to see more of the rifle rut bull pics. I know there were alot of nice bulls taken.  It would be nice to see what potential this tag has to offer. Lets see them all.

I'm sure the East Wenaha tag went home empty.  Will confirm with an E-mail soon.  The tag holder asked alot about the area before coming over. They had some experience in part of the unit, I'm not 100% sure where they hunted but I do know where they did not!  The big boys are still there. I packed out one of the new Wenaha East Buck Muzzleloader tag bucks yesterday. He had a misfire on a dandy buck 4th day then shot a legal buck the last morning, when I got there to pack them out they were just finishing working him up.

Wow I thought eating a E Wenaha bow tag was ridiculus but not filling the rifle rut tag is insane! Would like to hear that story, it was pretty warm in sept and the big ones weren't standing out on the open ridges everywhere but that should have been an awesome hunt. Maybe they were looking for 400 or bust.   nwhunter

what doya think it scored?? anybody heard?? looks pretty narrow.  Hunting an apple orchard down in the lowlands doesnt appeal to me at all. I guess if there are elk there though hunters will follow and i would to if I had no other option

He must not have got out of the truck very much then.  My  brother had the Rimrock ML branch tag and we had them screaming all over the place.  All the hunters we saw were the ones driving the roads and bugling from their truck.  Not trying to call your friend a road hunter but the bulls in the Rimrock were screaming.  The only time they shut up was when that cold front with snow hit.  After that they were screaming again.

Got the report on the Wenaha East Rifle Hunt Tag.  Big 0 not sure the flavor of that soup but should be real hard to swallow. nwhunter and I tried to help them but they were going to do it on their own.  Some one earlier said there are no Big bulls in Wenaha East, that 320 is about it. Picked up a camera Saturday that had some good pictures to prove otherwise.

I am trying to still choke down my bow tag but that rut tag soup would make me puke, would like to hear the story on that. Dave there really aren't that many big bulls in the wenaha units so don't try to convince them of it they are all in the dayton. LOL  nwhunter

I guess I was seeing things there.  Actually Scott the Watershed is still the hot place to go. The big boys have their anual powwow there August 15 to Jan 15 yearly. Had a BIG cat, small bear, and a few bulls, cows with calves on the camera I just picked up that was north of our last year camp.  John  did not say much about the hunt except they could not get a shot. A real bad taste.
