First Grouse for my son
« on: September 30, 2009, 07:22:54 AM »
My son wanted to go on the youth pheasant hunt this weekend, but he had a football game on Saturday and Sunday I talked him into going into the hills after grouse instead. It was a great day and we did quite a bit of hiking putting four or five miles on the boots and ranging from 4300' up to 4700' without seeing one bird. On the way back home when we got a lot lower we jumped three blues and Cody was able to get one.

A full crop - red and blue huckleberries, dandelion tops, clover, and various other leaves

Great looking bird!

When they're in those berries they're the best eating bird!

Way to go Cody AND Dad!
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

, good job, love the way kids hold there first birds..
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Me thinks you may be missing some football games this year.  Great job.  He looks very happy and proud.  He also looks like he is going to be a big man.  Keep him hunting.  That time with him is now.  Football can wait.  You have a great looking young man there.
