Great show on wildlife photography.
« on: December 23, 2007, 07:07:34 PM »
I just caught the tail end of "Travels to the Edge with Art Wolfe, Alaska: Katmai Coast  #104" on KCTS the PBS station.

Absolutely amazing wildlife images with lots of Brown bears, plus some cool shots of a fox digging razor clams.

Here is some info from the KCTS website.

Air: Sunday, December 23, 6:30 pm on KCTS (Analog/DT)Seattle
Future Airs: 12/24 3:29am on KCTS (Analog/DT)Seattle; 12/24 3:29am on KYVE; 1/22 5:30am on CREATE; 1/22 11:30am on CREATE; 1/22 5:30pm on CREATE; 1/22 11:30pm on CREATE; 12/28 4:00pm on HD; 12/29 1:00am on HD; 1/15 4:00pm on HD; 1/16 1:00am on HD

Broadcast In: English

The remote Katmai Coast is the largest intact stretch of uninhabited coastline left in North America. Art takes advantage of the long days of Alaska's short summer in Katmai National Park, spending time with the largest population of grizzly bears in the world. Joined by bear biologists, he gets up close and personal with Ursus arctos to provide a fresh look at the behavior of these powerful predators in the wild.

I am a big fan of Art Wolfe and his photography.  Not to take away from that, but a funny story is that he shot my parent's wedding.  They thought he was a horrible wedding photographer and the photos were disappointing.  This was in the late 60's I think.  Of course, they never knew he would become the famous photographer he is today.  Also, people and weddings is obviously not his forte...I would not be the best wedding photographer.  You have to like your subject.

I watched the show on my dvr this morning.  Good show.  He's a good photographer.  Helps to have a 600mm f4 L lens as well.  If I was photographing bears, I would want a lens that big myself...
