Coho On the Icicle River
«
on:

Ok, guys, the WDFW just opened not only Steel Head on the Icicle river here in my back yard...but also Coho fishing! We are allowed to keep 3 Coho a day and 4 Steel head....only problem is....being from the East side...I have never fished Coho in the rivers! I have Chinook down pat in this river and Steel head....but the Coho are different I would think!! Also it is selective rules!!! So, throw me a bone here......How, or what do I use to go about catching them?!?!?! Spoons, spinners, colors?
I have no idea!! Steelhead is going to rock.....now if I could get a grip on these Coho!!
Thanks very much for any info!!

Blue and silver and pink and silver are good colors(for flies). This late in the game they will hold to deeper, slower water. We strip flies through pools when flyfishing. Spingear, small spoons would work I am sure.

you might need to wait more than 12 minutes to get a response.
i would throw big brass body'd spinners with blue blades...like maybe a #3 blue fox, brass body, blue blade. if the water has any color and is not gin clear, go to a #4.

If you can flyfish use egg sucking leach followed by a glowbug. They go nuts for them. You will also catch lots of everything else with them.

Went out to the river tonight and took a look around.....I have no idea if these fish are even going to be catchable!! Honestly the deepest holes for spring chinook fishing are only running a few feet deep....and the water is crystal clear! I am going to give flies a shot......if nothing happens....it will be time to start nailing the Steelies!! I can see them all over the Wenatchee right now!!! FISH ON!!

Are the ho's in the river? I would try small vibrax spinners or small corkies with very small hooks.
I would like to see a pic of one of them ho's that far up. Wounder if they look like fertilizer or if they are good crome fish.

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?

Thanks again for the info...I will definitely take pictures so that you all can see what EXTREME upper river Coho look like....As for the Ho's.....they look the same...just cost more cause of the lack of competition!!! LMAO

For some God Awful Reason the WDFW decided that we can only fish the Icicle for Coho....NO COHO IN THE WENATCHEE!!! And you can fish Steelies in both!
I don't get it....the Coho in the Wenatchee are all going to go into the Icicle anyway?!?! Who knows!!!
Oh, and the limit on Coho is 3 a day!

Sweet! I'm heading to Leavenworth tomorrow for the weekend. My in-laws live just off the river near Peshastin... I'm going to sneak in some Steelhead fishing behind their place!!

It looks like selective gear rules apply? Single barbless hook? Does pinching the barb qualify or does it need to be filed off?
