Idaho Unit 1 Moose Hunt
« on: October 02, 2009, 11:15:03 AM »
Oct 1
I met up with my friends Dan (tagholder) and Tim on Thursday afternoon in northern Idaho. We had just enough time for a quick evening hunt. We called from a few different locations with no responses. As we were driving away from the second calling spot, we saw a bull coming up over the hill. He was 80 yards away and looking for love. Dan hopped out and loaded up his gun, as Tim and I sized up the bull. After an intense minute, we decided he wasn't quite big enough and let him walk. I know there are bigger bulls in the area. Hopefully, it won't come back to haunt us. I'm guessing about 43" wide?

with my self-made width guessing formula, i'm gonna guess him at 44" wide.
way to hold off. he'll be a giant here soon.

probably the smart decision assuming the wolves haven't hammered them too bad up there.  Good bull though, just a step below what you want.

Good decision.  I've hunted up there a few times and have always seen more moose than muleys.  I've never seen a really big one, but have seen several of that size.  Good luck and can't wait to see the pics of the kill!

I geuss I am not worthy...I've seen bigger but I would have shot. Way to hold off. I know you can't get the big ones if you shoot the smaller ones. Man, I hope I'm as strong as you if I ever get drawn.
Just one more day

Looks like a great bull to me, but no double brow tines on the moose's left side would hurt score.  Hope you can find a bigger one!  Good luck!

Gret pics Jon.  Tell Parch he should have shot that bull so he could have been home in time for cards tomorrow!!!  Seriously though, nice bull but it would be nice to find one with some better fronts on him.  Tell Parch and Duckman hello!!!!  Have fun and stay safe

Nice bull but with only a single brow on his left side I would have passed as well.

Not much to report today besides a lot of rain, sleet and snow. We spent a lof time in the pickup and a little bit of time hiking and getting drenched. No bulls seen or heard. We are hitting it hard tomorrow though.

Bull down!
We hit it hard all day today. It was pretty slow most of the day. Called in a pencil bull this morning and heard a few cows bawling, then came across this guy at around 5:00 pm while riding 4 wheelers up to our next spot. He was running through the brush, it happened fast. I finally got the camera rolling just before he tipped over.
