Great Deer Fight
« on: October 06, 2009, 10:05:33 PM »
Here is an amazing clip of a whitetail fight followed by an incredible shot; especially with a scoped rifle.  I hadn't seen it before but apologize if it's been posted before.  Enjoy!!!

Yeah, that was pretty cool.  I have to say that I was pissed when he shot - I thought he had killed one of the deer.  I kept watching, thankfully, and it was pretty cool how that turned out.  Kind of a risky shot but I'm glad that everything turned out alright.

I don't agree at all with that Charles guy that posted.  Perhaps in a national park area "natural selection" is at work but, given hunting pressure, habitat loss, etc. natural selection is (mostly) no longer at work there.  I don't know if I would have shot (out of fear of hitting one of the deer) but I would have definitely made an effort to get them separated.

Nice offhand shot.  Cool how it turned out, otherwise just a waste.

That was a good shot.  And, I have to say, I'd have done the same thing.
What do you all think?  Would you have made an attempt to separate the two bucks or let the "natural selection" process play out?

Personally given the state they were in I would have let nature run it's course. Texas has an abundant population of whitetails so I don't think that 2 are going to hurt it any. Beside deer with an antler design that locks up would be a undesireable trait to me. If I owned a ranch down there I would definatly not want those genetics on my place.

I can see your side of it but don't know that I totally agree.  I think that hanging up could be more accidental than a freak of genetics (although that is NOT a blanket statement).  If it was out in some "wild" area I would agree with you.  However, I'm betting those guys just drove up there and found them like that - not a wild area.  You're correct in saying that it would be very unlikely to hurt the population number, though.
