Buddy's First Rifle

Alright after months of badgering and peer pressure i finally got my buddy to pick out and purchase his first rifle. He like me has his german hunting license but just hasnt sealed the deal until today, and let me tell you this is a dandy rifle. 

Sauer 202 Classic in 30.06.  It has a detachable box magazine and quick detach swivels that leave a flush look(no stud)

This is a very popular rifle over here and they just started using a different kind of wood for their  stocks making it an even finer rifle.

picture of the wood and the button push swivels. being able to take off your sling for a silent ansitz is a pretty popular idea over here.

very pretty rifle. pretty short barrel length from the way it looks.

It is a 22 inch barrel.  it looks even shorter cuz he is a tall guy. Having it a little shorter makes it easier to maneuver in the stand.

Thats a sharp looking rifle. I havnt seen any around here though.  Are they affiliated with Sig Sauer?

Good Looking rifle, now get that thing to the range and tell us how it shoots! How it feels!

Is he thinking of getting some glass to put on it, or maybe wait a while? Good glass is very expensive, and I wouldn't have any idea what might be available in Germany.

there is a fantastic selection of optics in germany. Sworovski, Zeiss,  Schmidt & Bender, Kahles, Dr. Optic, Meopta are all made within driving distance and are generally at a better price than you can find them in the states.

With his recent travels and the expence of the rifle he may not be putting a scope on it any time soon. especially with the grade of scope that he should be putting on it. These rifles are made so well that when my other buddy changed the barrel on his from 375 to 300winmag it was still hitting the bullseye with absulutely no adjustments. that flipping amazing craftsmanship right there.  He is thinking we might get out to the range to break it in with the iron sights tommorow but we'll see.

Wife shot a fox tonight with my new 308 but even though we watched it flop around for 20 seconds before heading into the brush and we worked a schweisshunde on it we couldnt find it. Just one tough critter i guess. Better luck next time.  a few of my buddies shot red stags this weekend too. I'll see if i can snag some pics.
