Timing the Rut in the Southwest
« on: October 09, 2009, 10:45:46 AM »
I have a mule deer tag for Unit 31 in NM. This is the far SE corner of the state and while its not one of the most sought out units, I saw quite a few bruisers when I was down there last spring. Does anyone know when the rut starts in this area? Its about 3,500ft above sea level and up. The season is Nov 21-25.

Also, an experience/recommendations with calls or rattling these mullies? Thanks.

looks to me that it wond matter much since you only have 5 days, but I am sure at the very least if they are even close to the way they are here you will catch some dumb bucks cleaning up some of the does that have not been bred yet. Your best bet anyway will be finding where they migrate.
