Mule Deer hunting Cody, Wyoming
« on: October 11, 2009, 09:02:41 AM »
I dont normally ask for help or information on this site but this time I could use some.  I am heading to Cody, Wyoming on November 1st, and be there for up to a week then on to Montana to a couple of my stand by spots for deer and elk.  I have been to Cody before, Mule deer hunting once with the wife and it was more of a get away than a hunting trip, I did find some bucks but we did not harvest any.  I am familiar with the South Fork and North fork of the Shoshone river roads, and sunlight basin.  I believe sunlight will be closed when we are there.  South Fork is mostly private, and the north Fork has lots of public access land.  Has anybody else hunted there or have any advice.  I am up for swapping info about Idaho, Oregon or Montana if anybody needs some ideas.  Thanks

Hunted sheep and goat there but not deer.  Good luck.  I think a call to the Cody R.O. would be a good idea.  (307) 527-7125.  Lots of low elevation state and BLM public off the river bottoms, get the BLM 1:100,000 surface land ownership maps.  Check out the Walk-In areas http://gf.state.wy.us/PLPWHMPROGRAM/uploads/huntingwalk/park/Park09.pdf
and the Heart Mountain, Carter Mountain, Pitchfork and Absaroka Front HMAs
http://gf.state.wy.us/plpwhmprogram/frmHunterManagementHome.aspx
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
