South Sound to See Larger Returns in the Future
« on: October 11, 2009, 09:04:24 PM »
Some know already about the restoration project on the Nisqually delta which is nearly complete, studies have shown that a good majority of the Sound's smolt population previously reared in the Nisqually delta. With the addition of several hundred acres more of delta/ estuary the smolt capacity is expected to go way up meaning  thousand's more adult's coming back through the Sound in a few years.

Let me ask a question without a the barage of slams, but do the Tribes have any thing to do with the enhancement of hatcheries?

The Nisqually tribe has their own hatchery, but from what I hear they do a piss poor job of running it.  Just some Joe shmo native playing biologist.

the tribe runs the salmon hatchery on the nisquick.  they do a pretty good job of it, actually, unfortunately the fish they plant are terrible biters(which is probably why the runs are usually in the 20,000 range).

i'd like to see the steelhead run recover, but i doubt that there's any hope for that river.  my first 2 years of steelheading were 2 of the last years that it was open.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

I wish more shore line on Nisqually would be opened up. Too many people crammed and a small area to have much fun.
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
