Two weeks ago I filmed this bull with his cows and debated going after him but we couldn't get a solid look from the film. Last week he was killed and I was able to get some pics.
He has two kickers on one tine and one kicker on the other. Plus a little extra "dribbles" on his bases. The last one is a shed found in the same area that shows the same characteristics.

It is because they are typically short vertically growing tines, sort of like little devil horns. They are very common on bulls in the Gila Nat'l Forest in New Mexico, but occur on elk all over the country. Usually just one on each antler originating on the top of G1 at the base.

Never heard 'Devil Dogs' until now.

I wonder what causes that? There is a bull in packwood who got shot by a poacher this year but one of his antlers always pointed down in front of his face. At first thought he just did something when it was growing but it kept happening every year. Those antlers can do some weird things
