Ive never hunted deer with a shotgun. This year I might be if its not working out with my bow. What about a shotgun when my max range will be around 30 yards? Slug or BS?

try to hit a flying island deer with a slug if you can your a god, I've missed with slugs many times , all the guys I knew that hunted the island alot like the buck buck shot . If the deer will stand still a 100 yards no doubt the slug will do better. never lost one with buck shot on whidbey. carry a slug in your pocket if you see a buck standing out at 75-100 slip one in place of the oo buckshot, you will get a lot of quick jumpshots overthere and the buck shot will pay off.

100% agree with you buck shot on the island will work the best plus where I hunt your never going to have a clear shot at a deer more then thirty yards out

This might be another stupid question but for buck shot I'm assuming you want a full choke huh? Again, never hunted deer with a shotgun :chuckle:

mods work good , even cyl if close. my dad a 10 gauge with a full choke at 80 yards he was one foot high with a one foot pattern out of a goose gun , no wonder he missed.

I'd use slugs if you have arifled barrel.  I'm curious, anyone use BS in a rifled barrel?  How does that pattern?

I tried it at the range.  No pellets hit the target at 50 yds.
