Not a week before season (or water fowling), but I was bicycle road in a few miles from the gate of a closed road system Elk hunting when I leaned my rifle on the bike while I glassed a ridge. The rifle pushed the bike over and fell. Something on the bike frame smashed the scope tube. Ended my hunt for that day right then and there. I had a spare rifle back at camp. Still sucked.

At least you now have another oar for the boat.  I would go and get an 870 in the meantime.

I have an 870 and a Winchester waterfowler pump. Its just that I am going to look like a dork forgetting to pump for a while :o   I switched to an autoloader due to shoulder arthritis so its going to be a painful season..... :'(

that, and if you're anything like me...  a flock that your auto may be able to take 3 shots on, will turn into only two decent shots with a pump... but thats me.

I have a couple buddies that are just as fast or maybe even faster/more accurate with pumps than most people are with autos.  All it takes is practice.

I have an Escort Magnum. The bolt broke 2 weeks before the end of the season.
Had to use my Mossberg 500 pump the rest of the year.
Lifetime warranty, 6 weeks, back to me,all I pay is postage.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

Hey Doug,

I had the same thing happen to me last year on opening day.  I too own a Charles Daly auto and when I fired my first two shots the bolt shredded!!  I found all the pieces and stormed home pissed to say the least!  I called KBI and told them about it.  I too had to send it in to have the bolt fitted and fixed.  The process took about 4 weeks, I must admit KBi is slow on letting you know if your guns is done or not.  I called about 4 weeks out and asked what was up, they said it was on the way, in route. During its absence I resurected a maverick 88 I had in the safe.  Using a auto for so long, it was funny at times using a pump.  Id' think what the hell after the first shot, trying to pull a second shot without racking it.  Then remembering it was a pump. :bash:

It really suck that you had almost the same thing happen but I must say...Charles Daly does stand behind their work.  Ive had zero problems since.  Just my  :twocents:
Moooon Riiiiver. Using your whole fist doc??

It's interesting to me that when I called, the teckie said oh,  we will have to check the headspace.....I asked if they have a problem with a certain lot or whatever? He didn't say anything but I think they got a bunch of bad guns and don't want to say anything but they are nice about there lifetime warranty.   I noticed that the steel looked like it had crystalized where it broke. oh well. By the way, how is headspace measured on a shotgun???Good hunting everyone.
