Our elk herd has really gone down hill over the last few years.  The either sex hunting has really taken it's toll, I guess the WDFW has acheived there goal of restoring this unit to a deer unit, they don't want the elk here and it shows.  I live here and I don't hunt it if that answers your question. :(

Very few elk, you really have to know where they are and where they go. It also doesn't hurt to have access to private land, but more and more land owners are charging a trespass fee in order to hunt their land.

I hunt this unit hard for deer and RARELY see elk... There are many other areas that I hunt for elk, but never West Klickitat. Good luck if you decide to hunt there, let me know how it goes.

My experience in the area is very different than those who posted before me. Not so sure I would drive from Shelton to hunt there though. You'd be driving past alot of good elk area in doing so. Unless your lucky, going there blind hoping to stumble on an elk will be hard. There is alot of the unit that doesnt contain huntable populations of elk. You'd have better luck in the reprod along Interstate 5.

Hunted deer over there several for years, seen one cow elk. Wouldn't be my first or second choice  :twocents:

I know of one bowhunter and one rifle elk camp that would agrue with all of you. Do some on the ground homework. Has to be a reason why all those camps are set up during elk season.
Can't we all just get along?
