today's hunt
« on: October 18, 2009, 02:01:40 PM »
overall not bad except for the hunter we came across who decided it would be fun to fire shots at a coyote likely closing any potential prospects for the day in that area. i was able to find a well used game trail and lots of fresh pellets so i'll be back tomorrow morning before sunrise to get into position.. this is a new kind of hunting for me as i grew up in the midwest where we used mostly the post and flush method of hunting. the mountains bring an entirely new aspect to the hunt, much more interesting actually.. good luck everyone and to those who's season is already over - congrats!

heck ya it would be fun to fire shots at the coyote! i have killed way more deer than coyotes so i would have dne the same thing. sory it hurt your hunt, but there is still a lot o season left.
good luck!

Wow.
Remind me not to shoot anything while sharing a unit with you.

I doubt the shot hurt the hunt much.................If at all.

I heard the same thing from a group of guys at Fishtrap (BLM) . They were from out of town and were shocked when I told them that people shoot there every day all year long and that the deer were used to it.
This closet is taken- go find your own

hey i don't mind the comments. i don't own the land so yes, others have just as much right as me to shoot whatever, whenever as long as it's in season. after reading some other posts from folks that have traveled long distance only to find their previous hunting areas closed is disheartening so to have an opportunity to hunt right out my back door (literally) is nothing to complain about. anyway, i went back this evening and found more tracks at the end of the trail ended heard something below me 50 yards which i was breaking branches trying to get into the trees (on edge of clearcut). i wasn't able to see it but held tight and glassed around for 20 minutes, next thing i know a doe pops out of the brush 30 yards from me, i watched her for a while then a few minutes later another one emerged from the same area. finally i decided to make my way down hill towards home and glassed back at the area until sunset. complaints aside, it was a good day.  :)
