Question.
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:27:40 PM »
I got invited to hunt some private land on the 14th of next month.

I am trying to decice which rifle of mine to use.
Turk 8mm mauser (all original) with iron sights or my all original Mosin (iron sights) or my Spanish 7.65mm with iron sights.

I need a cheap scope so i can mount it on my Enfield 30-06 and ditch the peep sights. i cant hit stuff with em. :bash:

Hunt will be in Spokane area on all private land. LOTS of bedded down whiteys hang out there and the owner wants a couple removed from the gene pool lol!

I'm stoked!
This will be my first kill for big game. I hope things work out for me and i am able to go.

I hope they work out for you also and you get to go. I am sure someone on here has a cheap scope that they can part with.

You could always try craigslist  :dunno:

How cheap?  You could get into a Simmons Aetec for $180-ish (new).  Great value IMO.

And if you need any company on those hunts you let me know  ;)

Personally I would add a scope for the long shot. You can get a used scope at pawn shop.

bolth are fine rounds the only thing i give the 30-06 is better tradjectory over a bit longer range but with with no scope on them you can't shoot really one farther than the other if you get a cheap scope may i make a sugestion a great scope for the money i use on my smaller cal guns under 300 win is the bushnell banner you can get a 3-9x40 for like 70.00 or the 4-12x40 for 99.00 great clear scope never had one problem with mine i own 3 of them good luck to you

Yeah, Good Lord, buy a scope!  You'll think that was the best money you ever spent if you get a buck like that and you'll kick yourself for the rest of your life if you miss.

Buy lots of ammo and practice, practice, practice after you put a scope on it.  Also, let the scope make you confident to hit your target within whatever you think your effective range is (establish this in practice), but not OVERCONFIDENT so you blaze away at 500 yards and wound something.

That's good - I think that the gong is 200 yards, if I remember right (it's been awhile since I shot there - I used to live off of 176th.)

bushnell banner is a good scope for the price
just over 100's
i've successfully taken animals out to 458 yds with it
last group at the range with it at 500 yards was 4 3/4"
3x9 power works great

Good luck on your hunt!
