i think it is pretty awesome that a .340 weatherby was used! way to hammer down! being overgunned is not necessary at all... but it sure is fun! :P

I guess it's fun if you enjoy making hamburger out of both front shoulders upon impact.  Nothing like cutting 50 pounds of meat off your deer and leaving it in the woods because it looks like it's been through a blender.  Not my idea of fun.

who says you need to shoot the deer through the shoulders? through the ribs behind the shouldr would be suffucient... to each their own. big gum or little gun, the deer is dead meat, and tastey :hello:

.308 for me, this is my first season with the Winchester Supreme Ballistic Tip 168gr. They don't publish a drop chart for over 300 yards if sighted in at 100, but man does it spall once it hits.

ive seen worse damage from small caliber rounds than some large caliber rounds all depends on exact bullet placement and how big of a chunk of bone you hit

I know this is for the successful rifle hunters, but if I were to rifle hunt again, I would use my Browning A-Bolt in 25-06 shooting Federal 100 grain Nosler ballistic tips.  My buddy used it last year to fill his antlerless tag in GMU 130.  Nice little 25 cal hole going in, significantly lafger hole coming out.  That was an easy blood trail.

7mm-08 with 140 grain berger in ID and WA and 300 RUM with 200 grain partition in NV.  Both work, one just better.  I take the 7mm-08 into the steep country since it is a ultra light.  Will be going to MT in 3 weeks and will use 300 RUM with 185 berger.
