Looking for reputable obedience trainer in Seattle area.

I have a 1yr old yellow lab which I eventually would like to train for upland bird. The problem is I only have about 80 percent control over her off leash in the enclosed back yard. I do not trust her obeying when out of the yard. More importantly she will not listen to the wife or kids, however when she sees me there is complete change. She is like a light switch, one minute she is very docile and then the next she is like the dog in "Marley and Me". Completely out of control. She has been like this since we had her at 7 wks of age.

Any guidance or known trainers in the area would greatly appreciated.

Save yourself some money and get a good obedience book. Also when you work with her make sure the kids or wife are with you so they can train as well. The dog needs to know that she is the lowest member of the family, just like in a pack. Once the wife and kids learn how to be agressive when giving commands they will have as much if not more control over her. Other than that I do not know of any trainers on the westside to take her to.

you could talk to Joan Fetty of positive dog training from woodinville. we did obedience through her. she's real good and also has something to do with the rainier hunting retriever club if i remember correctly.
Happy Gilmore might be able to confirm this.

do it yourself.... go get an electronic collar and collar condition the pup...night and day difference with my highly highly energetic german shorthair... he got to where he would behave when the shock collar was on....and not when it was off....so i bought another collar and taped a nine volt battery to it for around the house.... he is now a very well mannered dog... but if he makes a mistake in the field even if he's 600 or 700 yards away I can correct him... the electronic collar IMO is a very very important training tool...just collar condition him correctly...and read a book about training with the collar...  also www.gundogforum.com is a great forum to get into...alot of knowledgable people on the site that are more than happy to help you out with just about anything related to gun dogs

if you want to take it to a professional trainer i've had dealings with the guy at northwest performance dogs (i bought some birds from him)  he seems very very dog savvy and is a stand up guy

Petco and Persmart both offer obediance training for about $110.
They will teach you how to train you dog.
