opening day in the entiat we hear someone throwing alot of lead quickly then near the end of the day we drop into another ravine we found out what the shooting was about 2pt deer shot in the leg then in the chest >:(nothing pisses me off more then seeing that. take the time to make sure they have the points then make sure you can make the shot

proably some d asses lobbing shells like crazy and never went over to check for blood and proably didnt ever even know it was a 2 pt.  that is the stuff that makes us all look bad hate that too.  my dad says stupid people are breeding faster that the sane ones.  I think there may be alot of truth to that do you?

Yeah, a guy that worked for me learned that lesson.  His buddy was blasting away at a "3 point" mulie, couldn't hit it.  So he flips out the bipod legs and drops him with a single shot.  Got over to the deer and it is only a 2 point.   
buddy says "Oops.  I could have sworn he had a third..."
Lessons learned: 
1.  Confirm it YOURSELF before shooting
2.  Don't hunt with idiots if you can help it
3.  Just because someone is shooting at it, doesn't necessarily mean it's legal

To his credit (especially for a young guy), he called himself in and took the ticket.  $1,000-plus later... well, it probably won't surprise you to hear that the idiot-buddy never felt obligated to "help" with the ticket either...

It's almost to bad that if you do turn yourself in for a mistake that you get fined so heavily. Yet in the other thread about Trespassing it's only a $325 fine.

Considering the civil restitution for illegally killing a deer is $2,500, plus the criminal fine, he DID get a break at $1,000+.  I think we should be harsh on any mistake that involves pulling a trigger, as all such mistakes are inexcusable and violate every rule of firearms safety.

I personally found 3 two-points dead last year.  Two right off the road, and one while out hunting.  Just missed whoever shot it, he called his buddy who came hauling ass out through a wheat field to pick him up.  I crested the hill just as they were mobbing back to the road.  Little guy too, no chance that it should have even been accidentally identified as having a hint of a third point or eye-guard.  Ran into a game warden in that area who had two dead two-points in his truck and asked him how many others had been reported.  Seven on top of the two that he had in the back of his truck, plus the one that I found.(The two along the road had already been reported when I called)

reminds me of a dumba$$ up near Republic one day that shot a 3pt Mule deer back when it was closed for Mulies during late season, He saw that big white rump and thought it was a Whitetail.  Some people just dont belong.

i hate to admit it but if i ever shot a 2 point in a 3 point min unit i would do everything i could to get it home, no sense in paying $1000 for a simple mistake, ive heard of a coupla people doing this now where they see a buck, confirm 3 points and shoot only to walk up and discover that the deers head was turned just right to look like a 3 point when in actuallity it wasnt, flame away i wouldnt let the deer go to waste, id even use my tag on it, but no way in hell am i turnin myself in

I will be the first.In my opinion that makes you just as bad as a poacher.The stories you heard where someone confirmed it was a 3pt is bs they did not confirm anything exept they should not be hunting

yea i had a couple very nice 2pts at about 900 yards last tuesday over in umtanum. it was to late for a stalk and i wasnt close enough to see if they had any little kickers or a 3rd point anywhere. so i didnt both

it could have been very easy to get within a couple hundred yards to take a shot and hope there was a 3rd point somewhere. luckily i have good ethics.

i would have made a stlk on them but it was getting late, and i figure i would have had the next morning to try and find them. but ended up having to call it a day due to my girlfriend being really sick.

opening day my hunting buddy and my self looked at a buck for about a hour before we were both satisfied it was a 3 point only then did he take the shot and put it down it pays to make sure.

If you shoot a 2pt and leave it you are actually breaking more laws. I agree with andrew_12 gauge and would harvest the animal. If I was stopped I would explain what happened. I would rather be in that situation than leave and be reported for game wasting which is a huge crime and can get jail time.  I would agree to make sure first but mistakes can be made.
