Well, if you call yourself in, I'll say this; When the Warden showed up, he was pretty cool with the kid.  Explained that he had to give him a ticket, but that he should explain the circumstances to the judge and he would probably get a break (which he did).  Expensive lesson, but even the kid agrees that it was fair.
The reason they still give you a ticket, is so that people just don't go blasting away, then call a warden if they shoot the wrong thing, get a free pass, then keep on hunting...

Oh, and he got some instant credibility with the game dept here.  They couldn't believe that a 21 year old called himself in.

This is a big issue, I have seen a few people do this. I had my son at one event. I was not happy with it the other gut had 2 kids with him. The dad shot a 2 pt. 30 yards in front of use, i was new to the area Twisp. I wasnt sure if it was a special permit or what later found out it wasnt or i would have went off on him in front of the whole canyon. People need to figure it out/ Dont shoot till you know what it is. I try to teach my son that but i hear some peaple cant figure it out. PISSES ME OFFFFF :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

On the bright side, somebody has to let us earn 10 points!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Sounds bad. People are always talking bad about archers... Stupid is stupid. No matter what you got in your hands.

Not only that, but if it is that questionable, why would you want to end your season on a gamble, or a barely legal animal. Let them grow.
Personally, I have not shot at legal animals due to doubts and have never regretted that decision.
But then again, I like hunting more than I like dragging an animal out of the woods.

I saw 7 bucks in 3 days of hunting in GMU 113, only 3 of which were legal and only 2 were shooters. tried to take aim at the biggest 1 only to find my scope has fogged internally! next day different gun, forkhorn, with eyeguards but couldn't tell you they would measure an inch so no aim was even tried with the rifle, only binos. 3rd day, another little forkhorn, didn't matter how much I stared he wouldn't grow a 3rd on either side.

We passed on one that we thought was legal.  It was really foggy. It was and it got taken a short time later by a youngster. It was his first.  We saw more 2 points than ever.  Every group of deer we saw had a least 1 or 2  2 points. I bet I saw at lest 20 different 2 points and not one had a eyeguard.  Good optics are an absolute must while mule deer hunting.

Years ago up Rock Creek in the Ump I come across I guy hooting and hollering. He yells to me "check out the size of this deer" so I wander over toward him and go "Hey buddy, that's no buck, that's a spike bull" and "Lucy .... you gonna have some splainin' to do when the man gets here" the look on the guys face was........ indescribable. Anyone else remember this? Back in like 86, maybe 87.

:yeah:
In 2002 (my second year hunting here in the SE), I passed on 2 bucks that I am pretty sure had 3rd points, but I just wasn't positive.  Ate tag soup that year too.  That year I replaced my rifle scope and bought a spotting scope..

Sometimes it goes the other way. Guys shoot elk with too many points. One guy started shooting the extra points off. Problem was it was sagebrush and there were plenty of onlookers.

I had this come up on Tuesday. I was in really thick stuff in a birch stand. I kicked a 4 point out of his bed at about 15 yards. It was so thick in there I could not see his antlers very quickly. By the time I confirmed the points I passed on the shot as it was to thick and he was moving straight away from me and towards some private property. I had seen a few spikes/forkies and thought it was probably one of them at first.
