Winthrop Deer
« on: October 26, 2009, 07:00:43 AM »
Not too much of a story on this one. I hunted for 6 days seeing a lot of small bucks and does but this was the first legal buck I saw. This was in the Pearrygin burn behind a gated road a few miles back. I came around a corner and saw a doe standing in the burnt timber and then noticed a small buck above her. The small buck bedded down and kept looking above him but I could not see what he was looking at. Finally through the burnt timber I noticed legs from another deer. I moved a few feet to get a better look and when he turned I noticed it was a buck with about an ear width rack. I waited for about 10 minutes for him to finally move to where I could see if he had a third point or not. He was standing quartering away from me when I took the shot and he walked about 20 yards before he fell over after the shot. Nothing big, just a standard 20" wide 3 point but he had a pretty big body on him. Since I was 3-4 miles back I decided to bone him out and pack him out.

Nice buck!

Is he a 2 x 3? Congrats on your deer.

He is a 3x3 but is hard to tell by the pictures. One side is about 3" and the other is about 5".

Yes he is a 3x3 without eyeguards. The pictures are all from the front so they don't show the 3rd points too well. The 3rd points fork off the main and not the G2.

He looks tasty...  :)
