Dandy buck and story. When you hunt hard all week I would be happy as hell taking one from the road in the last couple hours of the season. doesnt happen all the time.

That is an awesome story.  :o
Same thing happened to me in 95 in Wyoming.
I had just got married and 3 weeks later went to wyoming for a 10 day hunt.  We hunted our butts off every day I just wasn't in the right spot every time someone from our party had a chance to shoot a buck, so after we had packed up camp and were heading out of the canyon, we even got on the blacktop and were driving into Laramie we spotted a little forked horn off the side of the road.  He was behind a fence that said no trespassing without permission... :'(
So we left and decided to turn around about 1/2 mile down the road and go back to the farm house.  The guy was totally cool and said ya, go shoot him just don't shoot toward the house.  My buddy and I went and pounded him from about 50 yards away, we were SOOOOO happy.  So was my wife, for coming home with something.
Hunt hard until the END!!!!

Congrats.  Persistence creates opportunity - you have to be out hunting to get lucky!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Thanks guys! Your comments are appreciated! You are right about one thing....the size of the body on that deer is one reason I was glad we got it near a road! LOL

My old football coach used to say....Luck is when preparation meets opportunity! Guess he was right!

Thanks again for the kind words!
