my guess is you gentleman have never shot a 300 rum. Much better round with better versatility by far. If you want a 338 I would definitely look at the 338 rum. pretty good advantage over the 338 win mag. With that said there is nothin wrong with the 338 win but I think there is better out there. Plus with reloading you will have better luck with a beltless round or so I have read.

Actually have shot a 300 RUM quite a bit or wouldn't have posted an opinion.  I'm not a fan of any of the Ultra Mags.

Dude how old are you? why does it say 1996 on your profile? I seriously doubt you will be able to handle a Ultra mag or 338 win mag if your only like 13 or 14. :twocents:

Just to change it up i would vote for he 7mm STW. Not a real common caliber but could definetly hold its own.

i have never shot any of the rum's, i have looked at the charts on a 338 rum. i guess all i am saying is i have the .338 win mag and it has done everything i have asked it to and i am sure it is capable of more, why even consider another?

look at the chats again man. the 300 rum is way flat has just as much power if not more. 300rum zero in at 300 yards it drops 20 inches at 500 and has 2397 energy at 500. the 338 and zero at 300 it drops 30inches at 500 and has 1450 energy at 500. the 300rum is 4000 energy at the muzzle. the 338 at the muzzle is 3700.thats with a 180 grain bullet. go with the 300 rum
