Blacktails in rut
« on: October 24, 2009, 08:41:25 PM »
You know the rut is on when you can just walk up to some nice Blacktail bucks.

Saw the top of this dudes head bedded down on the property next to me.  Moved in closer to get a better look and some pictures.  I got pretty close before he spotted me.  I figured (correctly) he was paying attention to a doe.  Spotted her when she turned her head once he stood up.  She stayed put and he Stomped off to the other side of the thicket.

Off to my right I spotted another set of headgear, a fork horn that stood up when the big guy left.  Then saw a spike just beyond him.

Here is the focus of their attention

I don't have permission to hunt there... figured some pictures would be OK.  A neighbor that did have permission put him on the meat pole this morning...

Nice work!  Love that first one!
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
