Montana meat market
« on: November 01, 2009, 10:05:34 PM »
Different hunters have different agendas, but one common thread is too be safe and have fun! We returned from our deer hunt accomplishing both. With 5 days to hunt and 11 tags in camp, 9 of which were flat top tags, we had some work ahead of us. We ended up camping on a section of BLM. Opening day we hunted a few miles away in a BMA while the other two in our party hunted for does around our camp. They ended up seeing 5 bucks that day! We hunted hard opening morning without seeing a single deer. After a quick PBJ for lunch, we headed south to make arrangements at a good BMA south of town. We ended up talking to a hunter and his two sons who had a nice 4x4 mulie and a 3x3 whitetail, they were heading out finish their tags off with a doe and one more buck. We had a reservation for the next day and eagerly awaited the opportunity to hunt this beautiful piece of Montana. Paula got a chance late in the day on a group of does and a two point and did a great job at placing a bullet in the neck of a doe looking over its shoulder at us at 80 yards. Got to us the game cart for the first time, what an awesome piece of hunting equipment!!!! We ended up taking our bucks about 600 yards from the wall tents, they were sunning themselves on a little ridge above the cedars they were hiding in. Bad idea, we found them at daylight and made it count.
We had a geat trip seeing a ton of game, 1000 antelope and lots of deer!!! We will be going back....hopefully next year!!!

That's a great getaway. You sure look well organized. That building where the deer were hanging looked just the way it should. Lots of dead animals :-)

gotta love how that montana gumbo builds up on the wheels of the cart.  Looks like a fun hunt.  Last time we trekked out we went 5 for 6 on bucks the day after the arctic storm broke.  Warmed up to a balmy 10 degrees after 2 days of -20 to -30 with 40 to 50 mph winds.  It was flat ass cold.

That gumbo is some nasty stuff for sure! We were on the county road after a small rain shower and my buddy's Chevy Colorado had so much mud build up the mud on the tires was rubbing on the mud stuck in his fender wells!!! We had to extract the mud with a stick so we could keep going. It would build up on your boots too, they would get real heavy, you could peel it off like a banana!! Got to give kudos to the Cooper SST tires on the F-150, they handled the mud great.

Pretty sure I've hunted that area, but we had a blizzard when I was there. Looks like fun.
